Regional School on HIgh Performance Computing Tools for Computational Science 2016

    High Performance Computing (HPC) is a key enabling infrastructure for advancing scientific activities. HPC tools allow modeling and simulation for a complex system. HPC has a wide range of applications such as: complex design and manufacturing for industrial engineering, data mining for big data in computer science, computational physics, computational biology, computational chemistry, and computational linguistic. Many institutions in South East Asia countries have invested HPC infrastructure for local scientists. In Indonesia, LIPI already invested HPC infrastructure in two centers of computer clusters. However, only few scientists are able to exploit HPC tools for their research activities. Therefore, capacity building for scientists, especially in the field of computational science is urgently needed.

    In 2013 and 2015, HPC school was conducted in Bandung covering several subjects, including building cluster from scratch, the introduction of some parallel programming concept and some representative parallel codes in computational science. The HPC school of 2016 is the continuation of the last HPC school, and it will be focused on technical skills for the HPC user, in particular the molecular dynamics simulation using Large-Scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS).
